BALLET Poise, grace, strength and
creativity are the essentials every parent wishes
for their children. These qualities come with a
well disciplined and agile body. A body that responds quickly
to the will of the owner is the first requirement
of dance. The Cecchetti system of graded ballet as
used in our school, develops the muscles to respond
by practicing planned sets of exercises designed to
stretch and contract each set of muscles in turn
leaving nothing to guess work. Examinations are conducted
each year by the Cecchetti Council and certificates
are issued to those who qualify. This gives
students a goal for which to strive and the parents
the satisfaction of knowing the progress of the
student. Toe or "pointe work" is limited to those
having sufficient ballet training and having proper
physical qualifications. Apart from the physical
development of the body, dancing has been found
mentally stimulating. Great concentration is
required thus the mind is more alert, increasing
memory and resulting in improved work.
