KNOW YOUR DANCE
TEACHER!
The Beaudoin's School of
Dance is not just another dance school. It was
established in Palo Alto in 1932 by Heston M.
Beaudoin. Its goal then as it is now is to promote
the art and appreciation of dancing, thereby
encouraging the love for all the arts, as dancing,
music, color, drama and literature are closely
related. These opportunities are offered in the
cordial atmosphere of the studio, where a warm and
friendly interest is shown in the students.
Being aware of ever changing
trends, the faculty at Beaudoin's regularly attends
all important Dance Conventions and seminars and
are members of the Dance Masters of California,
Dance Masters of America and the Cecchetti Ballet
Council of America. This inspires the teachers and
their students to reach for higher standards and in
turn enrich the cultural life of the individual and
the community.
It is also the objective of
the school to assist the students to reach their
own personal goals whether it be career, physical
or mental development, or just social or
recreational activities.

CONDITIONING
Never has a more interesting
and fun way been found for all around toning and
conditioning of the human body than DANCING! The
technique of Ballet, or Jazz, exercises all of the
muscles without over-development thus keeping the
body, as a whole, supple and strong. The person
with such training will move with a certain grace
and rhythm and have better reflexes, able to
control weight and generally have a feeling of well
being.
Most important you are
learning, making individual accomplishments and
having FUN!
WHAT DANCE
IS...
Agnes DeMille stated in her
"Book of the Dance" so beautifully: "Before man
can do anything, he must draw breath, he must move.
Movement is the source and condition of
life."
The movement of dance are
symbols through which man communicates what lies
beyond the realm of ordinary speech. The artist
tries to reach anyone who will listen; but he must
talk through symbols.
The ability to convey or
reproduce emotion gives great power; it is a
tremendous gift, mysterious and precious. Artists
try to fix it in forms that will endure and that
will arouse response in many people at widely
different times.
Great art outlasts life,
fashions, conditions, inventions and all the
changing circumstances of the world. This is true
of all art, and it is true of dancing, which
because depending in human habits and actions, is
the most malleable and changeable. It is also the
oldest art. Music came as an accompaniment to
dance, and song as punctuation and comment.
The elements of dance are
space, time and human bodies."
Dancing is an arrangement of
pattern in space and time, different from other art
forms as it is both visual and audible.
WHAT DANCING CAN DO FOR
YOU!
Proper dance training offers
may wonderful benefits. These include sound
physical development, good posture, poise, grace
and rhythm, as well as the more intangible, but all
important mental factors such as overcoming
shyness, self-consciousness. Good dance training
provides an emotional "safety-valve" by giving self
expression through a healthy outlet. Proficiency in
any endeavor must start with training. This is true
of dancing.
